Don't count the People's Pitstop out just yet.
The Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team piled up 308 points during Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway. The season total of 7,956 lifted us two spots in the 9beersfantasysportstavern league, to 4th place. We are just over 100 points behind the leader, so winning the championship is more than a mere mathematical possibility.
Here are the more detailed results.
Kevin Harvick: Started 14th, finished 6th and 80 fantasy points. These results probably would look even better if we hadn't benched the eventual race winner. Harvick slipped just enough late in the race to trail Carl Edwards in the points standings by a single point.
Kasey Kahne: Started 5th, finished 2nd and 88 fantasy points. The remarkable thing isn't that Kahne got so close to the front but never led a lap. It's that he got so close to the front after an early problem on pit row left him in 40th place.
Brad Keselowski: Started 12th, finished 3rd, 5 laps led and 96 fantasy points. The truly encouraging thing about Keselowski's day is that he was hungry for more when it ended. He'll be somebody to watch next year on the A List.
Regan Smith: Started 16th, finished 24th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 44 fantasy points. Frankly, this is probably as good as we can expect from the C List drivers available to us for the rest of the season.
And if you debated whether to watch this race or the Sunday afternoon NFL games (or if you sprained your finger switching back and forth), this is the week for you. NASCAR is taking its act to Saturday night for a Chase race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The qualifying session is scheduled for Thursday, so we're going to need to pick our drivers by Wednesday night. The polls are now open. Please note that both Kahne and A.J. Allmendinger are down to their last starts for us. And please vote accordingly.

Fearless Predictions - Kansas
As we approach Columbus Day, it's time for the NASCAR predictions to chart a course to undiscovered territory: the .500 mark. But it won't be easy. Last week's picks went 1-3, leaving us with a season record of 39-69.
One from the front: The one pick that worked for us last week was Carl Edwards. He starts in second place this week and finished second in Saturday's Nationwide race at Kansas Speedway to Brad Keselowski, who starts for the People's Pitstop. He also has finished in the top 10 the last two times the Sprint Cup drivers have taken on this track.
One from the back: This week, we find Juan Pablo Montoya in 34th place, but this pick is more of a prayer. We are praying that Montoya can avoid all the people who have reason to have grudges against him.
Two from the middle: Here are a few things you should know about Kurt Busch, who starts 17th in this race. His win last week in Dover was his fourth top 10 finish in five weeks. He jumped five spots in the point standings, to a very respectable (and in contention) fourth place. And he finished ninth at the Kansas race in June.
And then we have last week's runner-up, Jimmie Johnson. Yes, he starts in 19th place this week. But he's finished in the top 10 in the last five Kansas races. And speaking of five, there's always this.

The People's Choice - Kansas
Clint Bowyer may be switching teams, but we at this blog are glad that you, the Internet, are demonstrating your loyalty. You turned out yet again to pick a roster for the People's Pitstop. Your votes, combined with Friday's qualifying session, have combined to produce this starting lineup for the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team for Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway.
A List: You could call this week's poll the Once and Future Kings poll. There was a tie between Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson. We will start Harvick, who qualified 14th, or five spots in front of Johnson.
B List: Apologies to anyone who voted for Ryan Newman. His appearance in this poll was erroneous, since he's already used up his nine starts for us this season. Among drivers who may still represent the People's Pitstop, the top two vote getters were Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr., followed by Kasey Kahne and A.J. Allmendinger. The two K drivers, Kahne (5th) and Keselowski (12th) will start over Earnhardt (18th) and Allmendinger (22nd).

Spinning Our Wheels in Delaware
There are seven weeks left in the People's Pitstop's quest for supremacy in the 9beersfantasysportstavern fantasy NASCAR league, and we almost that many spaces to make up.
The Internet's favorite fantasy racing team scored 262 points during Sunday's Chase race at Dover International Speedway. Our season total of 7,648 leaves us in sixth place in our fantasy league.
Here are the detailed results.
Kevin Harvick: Started 22nd, finished 10th, 10 laps led and 82 fantasy points. Harvick's strong performance was good enough to put him in a tie with Carl Edwards the top of the point standings with seven races left in the Chase.
A.J. Allmendinger: Started 7th, finished 7th, 8 laps led and 88 fantasy points. Allmendinger had a strong car from start to finish, especially for someone out of the Chase, thanks in part to a heck of a save. This was the eighth start for Allmendinger, who now will have the "LAST TIME" warning in our polls.
Martin Truex Jr.: Started 1st, finished 30th (4 laps behind the leaders), 2 laps led and 52 fantasy points. Good thing he got the pole. It was the only way he was going to lead a lap this race. For a more detailed breakdown of his performance, check out this nj.com blog post.
Bobby Labonte: Started 8th, finished 26th (2 laps behind the leaders) and 40 fantasy points. Labonte's slide on a restart ended his chances of contention.

Coasting Into the Summer Season
In the end, every week can't be like last week.
The People's Pitstop took its foot off the gas pedal this week at Kansas Speedway. We scored only 223 points. However, like Brad Keselowski, the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team managed to hang on to first place with a season total of 3,683. Our lead in the 9beersfantasysportstaven league has narrowed to 112 points.
Here is the detailed scoring breakdown.
Kyle Busch: Started 3rd, finished 12th, 11 laps led and 81 fantasy points. If it weren't for Mr. Pink Car in a Pink Suit, our day would have been much worse. Busch was the only starter to lead a lap, and he was the only one to end the race on the lead lap.
A.J. Allmendinger: Started 26th, finished 27th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 38 fantasy points. Despite a paint job made famous by Richard Petty, Allmendinger didn't look much like the King. And he can't afford many more outings like this; halfway through NASCAR's regular season, Allmendinger sits 16th in driver points, and he get only four more starts for the People's Pitstop.
Mark Martin: Started 18th, finished 21st (1 lap behind the leaders) and 50 fantasy points. Martin has finished outside the top 10 in five of the last six races. Maybe he's the one who needs a new paint job.
Paul Menard: Started 9th, finished 19th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 54 fantasy points. At least his owner didn't humiliate his team by taking a cheap shot at a rival driver...oops, scratch that.
According to Yahoo Sports, the "spring" segment of the NASCAR season is over. The action now moves to the summer segment (and to TNT) with the first of two races at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania, home to Sukanya Roy, this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee champion. We won't ask you to spell words like stromuhr, but we will ask you to pick our lineup. The qualifying session is scheduled for Saturday, so you have until Friday to vote in our polls. Invite a friend to vote, too. The more, the merrier.

To accompany your morning cup of coffee -- or any other beverage you use to start your day -- we at the People's Pigskin are proud to present predictions for NASCAR drivers who will finish in the top 10 in Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway. We are not proud of the quality of these picks so far. Last week's forecasts went 0-4, dropping our season record to 10-30.
One from the front: It's awfully hard to pick against Carl Edwards these days. He's leading the pack in driver points, and he starts this race in 7th place. Also, he considers this his home track. If he can keep enough gas in the tank, he should do well here.
One from the back: How did Marcos Ambrose land in 35th place? No matter; we'll take it. The Tasmanian Devil has finished in the top 10 in the last two points races. (Three if you include the Sprint Showdown.)
Two from the middle: By landing a second Sprint Cup race, Kansas Speedway became even more important for those hoping to lift the cup. And for these picks, we will go with two drivers who have won here twice before and are looking to become the first three-time winner: Tony Stewart, who starts 13th, and Greg Biffle, who starts 14th and won the last time the top NASCAR drivers were here.

Allmendinger was all alone in third, while Mark Martin edged out a host of drivers for the final roster spot by virtue of points. He also edged his way into a starting spot by qualifying 18th. Allmendinger go the other starting spot by qualifying 26th, just ahead of both Bowyer (27th) and Earnhardt (28th).

At Least, WE Had Plenty of Gas
Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car couldn't go the distance, but the People's Pitstop could. Not only did the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team rack up 330 points during Sunday's race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but we scored more points than any other team in the prestigious 9beersfantasysportstavern league on Yahoo Sports. Our season total of 3,460 is good enough to keep us in first place.
Here's how we did it, with a little help from you-know-who.
Carl Edwards: Started 3rd, finished 16th, 61 laps led and 73 fantasy points. Edwards did his best work early in the race. Still, he remains your points leader. (Yes, even the New York Times noticed.)
Clint Bowyer: Started 10th, finished 15th and 62 fantasy points. Bowyer was the only driver in our starting lineup not to lead at least one of the race's 402 laps. Maybe he'll get that done this week in his home state, where he'll even race a truck.
A.J. Allmendinger: Started 2nd, finished 5th, 5 laps led and 97 fantasy points. Like Edwards, Allmendinger had his best results early in the race, before the sun set. Monday's Racing Summary
Before we get to the auto racing, here's a quick update on the People's Pigskin. The Internet's favorite fantasy football team currently leads t-bay cuervonatersXXL by a score of 110-97. That lead might not get us through the night, however. The Cuervonaters have Ronnie Brown and Anthony Fasano playing in the Monday night game between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. The Pigskin will need them to have a night like Jay Cutler had Sunday night (without the concussion part, of course).
As for the People's Pitstop, your favorite fantasy NASCAR team scored 261 points during Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. The season total is 7,740, leaving us 59,524th overall on Yahoo Sports and dropping us one spot, to 75th, in the Fans of From the Marbles league.

Jimmie Johnson: Started 21st, finished 2nd and 88 fantasy points. Fantasy NASCAR players will be disappointed that Johnson did not lead a lap, but since Johnson moved into the points lead, it's a safe bet that he'll get over it.
Jeff Burton: Started 23rd, finished 18th, 2 laps led and 66 fantasy points, including 10 for leading a lap. This was Burton's last race for the People's Pitstop this season. From a fantasy perspective, it can be described the same way as his season: OK but nothing to write home about. Yes, he's one of the drivers who made the Chase, but he did not win a race, and he has to be considered a long shot to get a checkered flag, much less the Sprint Cup.
Ryan Newman: Started 6th, finished 9th and 74 fantasy points. Here's a very interesting chart of Newman's day. It shows that even though he spent a good portion of the day near the front of the pack, he never found a way to get to the front of the pack.

Fearless NASCAR Predictions - Kansas
Now that you've had a chance to digest our fantasy football predictions for this week, it's time to offer a look at which NASCAR drivers will finish in the top 10 at Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. Last week's forecasts went 5-5, leaving us with a season record of 129-141.
1. Jimmie Johnson. Until further notice.
2. Joey Logano. He must be comfortable with this track, having won the Nationwide race on Saturday.
3. Denny Hamlin. He survived last week's hoopla and remains at the top of the Chase points list.

The People's Choice - Kansas
Whether your weather right now is bone dry or not so dry, you, the Internet, braved the virtual elements to select the lineup for the People's Pitstop to field at Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. Here are your selections.
A List. He's got four titles and a hot hand, so it should come as no surprise that you picked Jimmie Johnson to start this week. His co-owner Jeff Gordon will watch from the bench.
B List. This week, the People's Pitstop will say farewell to another driver, because Jeff Burton has been selected to start his final race for us this season. Ryan Newman will join him in the starting lineup, while Jamie McMurray and Kasey Kahne will grab the bench spots.
C List. This is the only poll that produced a tie. A.J. Allmendinger and Sam Hornish Jr. will compete in the qualifying session for the fourth and final starting spot.

The People's Facts - Price Chopper 400
First of all, a quick note of thanks to those of you who responded to the call for quick votes on which defense the People's Pigskin should pick up for this week's matchup against the t-bay cuervonatersXXL. As you can see at the bottom of this post, you, the Internet, voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Tennessee Titans. The waiver request was made and granted, and the Titans will start for the Internet's favorite fantasy football team.
That's one position down and eight to go. You can vote on the rest of our lineup from now to Sunday morning. You also can vote from now through Thursday evening on the drivers who will start for the People's Pitstop in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

Track basics: Kansas Speedway, a 1.5-mile tri-oval constructed in 2001, is one of the newest tracks on the circuit. It is also one of the hottest tracks on the circuit; less than a decade after its first race, it was awarded a second race for 2011. Are you upset that Atlanta Motor Speedway lost its second date? Here's one of the tracks to blame.
Recent winners: Tony Stewart (2009), Jimmie Johnson (2008), Greg Biffle (2007).
Who wins here a lot: In a word, nobody. Stewart and Jeff Gordon share the lead among active NASCAR drivers with ... drum roll, please ... two wins apiece.
Some complex geography: This week's track is located in Kansas City. Only it's not that Kansas City. It's in Kansas City, Kansas, which lies across the Missouri River from Kansas City, Missouri.
Maybe someone from that part of the country can answer this: Do Kansans get an inferiority complex from the fact that the primary city named for their state is located in Missouri? No? Moving on, then.

Looking Back at the Monster Mile
As we prepare for the Monday night game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, the People's Pigskin enjoys a 56-point lead over the Chicago VinSethBears. Our opponent has Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Johnny Knox and Robbie Gould in tonight's game. (That's right, four Bears; care to guess how this fantasy football team got its name?) This matchup is far from settled. Tune in Tuesday for a wrap-up.
In the meantime, let's discuss something that has been settled: the 281 points the People's Pitstop scored during Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway, including the bonus point Denny Hamlin recorded for qualifying fourth. Our season total is now 7,479, 55,859th among all Yahoo Sports competitors and 74th place among those in the Fans of From the Marbles league. Here are the details.
Jimmie Johnson: Started 1st, finished 1st, 191 laps led and 120 fantasy points, including 10 for winning the pole and 20 for leading more laps than anyone else. Simply put, he kicked butt.
Ryan Newman: Started 13th, finished 8th and 76 fantasy points. Good enough to be noticed, but not good enough to lead.
Matt Kenseth: Started 14th, finished 18th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 56 fantasy points. It is fitting that Kenseth ends his season for the People's Pitstop the way his whole season went as a Sprint Cup driver: making hardly a ripple.
Scott Speed: Started 20th, finished 32nd (7 laps behind the leaders) and 28 fantasy points. You want a quiet race? Check out this lap-by-lap report from the race. Scott Speed's only mention comes in Lap 91, when he goes a lap down.
