Fearless Predictions - Daytona
In bowling, they call hitting three strikes in a row a "turkey." Is there a term for three gutter balls in a row? Let's hope we don't have to find out.
One from the front: We can't pick the polesitter, Mark Martin, because he's in our starting lineup for this week. (Thank you, voters.) However, since Daytona has become a "dance with your partner" type of track, we can pick the Hendrick Motorsports teammate who has publicly committed to pairing up with Martin. That would be Jeff Gordon, who starts in 4th place and should have little trouble finding Martin.
One from the back: Kyle Busch had a dreadful qualifying session. He will start in 38th place, but he has won this race before. Also, despite an early spin, he finished in 8th place the last time these drivers were here. If anyone can climb from the back, it's Mr. Pink Car.
Two from the middle: Jeff Burton needs to make a move -- quickly. He currently sits 24th in driver points, so he's in real danger of missing the Chase, even if he manages to win a race. Luckily, Daytona has been kind to him over the years. He has nine top 10 finishes on this track, including a 5th-place finish in this race last year. He also starts in 12th place on Saturday.
Kurt Busch has already made his move. He didn't just win last week's road race at Sonoma; he dominated it. He starts in 25th place for this race, but he has finished in the top 10 in a dozen Daytona races, including the last two straight.
Enjoy the race and the holiday, and remember why we celebrate it. We'll be back with the results.

The Last Time We Visited Daytona
Thank the deity of your choice for that.
This week, the People's Pitstop starts an occassional series of flashbacks to tracks we've already visited. When George Santayana said those who can't remember the past are doomed to repeat it, he might have been thinking about the Internet's favorite fantasy racing team.
In the first week of the season back in February, the People's Pitstop trotted out this lineup for the Daytona 500: Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip. Two of those drivers (Earnhardt and Waltrip) had won races before at Daytona. All four of them qualified in the top 10 for this race. Earnhardt grabbed the freakin pole, while Gordon and Burton started in the front four.
This normally would have gotten us bonus points, but the Daytona 500's unique qualifying structure precluded that. Still, with a lineup like that, you would have expected the People's Pitstop to start the season on the highest of notes. Instead, we racked up a grand total of 142 points, our lowest total of the season by far (so far). No starting driver finished better than 24th, and Waltrip limped home in 40th place. In the ultra-competitive 9beersfantasysportstavern league, which we currently lead, we started out in 13th place.
Meanwhile, some kid who was making his second career Sprint Cup start (and who, according to his official biography, still can't legally drink in America) won the Great American Race.
The lesson: You can't relax after the qualifying session, whether you're a driver or a fantasy NASCAR player.
Speaking of the fantasy game, you have until Thursday night to make your picks for the People's Pitstop lineup. Two from the A List, four from the B List and two from the C List, please. Your votes will determine who starts for us.
And whether we've learned from the recent past.

Now, Back to the Races That Count
Dale Earnhardt Jr., one of the recipients of your votes in last week's poll, made it into the main event on the strength of his popularity. (Shocking, isn't it?) Jeff Burton and Marcos Ambrose, the other Sprint Cup drivers who got your votes, fell short in the Sprint Showdown and had to watch the rest of the festivities just like the rest of us.
But said festivities are now in our rear-view mirror.
And we at the People's Pitstop can't spend too much time looking back or planning our Memorial Day barbecue. We have to turn to the longest race on the NASCAR calendar, the Coca-Cola 600 this Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The qualifying session for this race is Thursday, so our lineup polls will have to close on Wednesday night. Please get your votes in now. We need your help to stay on top of the 9beersfantasysportstavern league.
We'll be back with, of all things, a book review.

Are You Ready for Some All-Stars?
If possible, we will update this post after the Sprint Showdown. In the meantime, you still have time to cast votes yourself in the Fan Vote. Enjoy your day.

Time to Bounce Back
The Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team compiled only 142 points during the Sprint Cup season opener. That leaves us in 13th place (out of 14) in the 9beersfantasysportstavern group on Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing.
Here are some of the details.
Jeff Gordon: Started 2nd, finished 28th (35 laps behind the leaders), 1 lap led and 46 fantasy points, including 10 for leading a lap.
Jeff Burton: Started 4th, finished 36th (116 laps behind the leaders), 5 laps led and 30 fantasy points.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Started 1st (technically), finished 24th (6 laps behind the leaders), 9 laps led and 54 fantasy points. So much for that conspiracy theory.
Michael Waltrip: Started 8th, finished 40th and 12 fantasy points. Waltrip was our only started who did not lead a lap. Maybe he should stick to talking.
Anyway, we have a chance to rebound this weekend in Phoenix. The race is Sunday, and qualifying is Saturday. The polls are now open and will remain open through Friday night. Please vote now.
We'll be back.

The People's Choice - Daytona 500
We are just minutes away from the season-opening race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule (the Daytona 500, in case you're living under a rock), and the People's Pitstop has the lineup to take the early lead in the 9beersfantasysportstavern group on Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing. Here are the drivers that you, the Internet, selected.
A List. Jeff Gordon, who will start on the front row of today's Great American Race, edged out Matt Kenseth for the starting spot. This week, we used starting position as a tiebreaker, but next week, we'll start using points, since the lineups will have to be set before qualifying.
B List. On the 10th anniversary of his father's death, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is officially the polesitter (even though a practice crash will send him to the back). He's also one of our starters this week, along with the leading vote getter, Jeff Burton. Martin Truex Jr. and Kasey Kahne (winner of a five-way tie by virtue of starting position) will be on the bench.
C List. This is also the 10th anniversary of Michael Waltrip's first Daytona 500 victory, so it's fitting that he's the starter for this week. His better qualifying position gives him the edge over Paul Menard.
The poll results appear below, and a very simple poll is now available for voting. We'll be back with the results. Until then, enjoy the race.

Racing Results and New Polls
(Yes, it's a long shot, but so were the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.)
The People's Pitstop had a very pedestrian Sunday, scoring only 212 points during the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. Our season total is 8,889, good enough for 78,903rd overall on Yahoo Sports and dropping us 16 spots, to 107th, in the Fans of From the Marbles league.
Denny Hamlin, who not only won the race but took over the overall Sprint Cup points lead, was left on our bench. Here's a look at the drivers who started.
Jeff Gordon: Started 15th, finished 37th (144 laps behind the leaders) and 18 fantasy points. Gordon's day ended early thanks to his on-the-track encounter with Jeff Burton. The only way he could have helped us after that is if Yahoo awarded fantasy points for post-wreck fights.
Jamie McMurray: Started 25th, finished 16th and 60 fantasy points. As this chart shows, about the only thing McMurray didn't do during this race is lead a lap.
Clint Bowyer: Started 7th, finished 7th and 78 fantasy points. Bowyer was a top 5 driver most of this race, but again, he couldn't get his car into the lead.
Sam Hornish Jr.: Started 27th, finished 18th and 56 fantasy points. A big improvement over last year, when Hornish crashed into Jimmie Johnson in lap 3. This, of course, was Hornish's last race for us this season.
It's clear now that the People's Pitstop won't win the Fans of From the Marbles league, but with your help, we can still make the top 100 or better. That's why we have a new set of polls for next week's race at Phoenix International Raceway. Please vote now.
We'll be back to wrap up the People's Pigskin's week.

NASCAR Results, New Polls and Recommended Reading
We can't say the same thing for the People's Pitstop, which managed to scrape together only 171 points during Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway. Our season total is now 8,677, putting us in 72,036th place overall on Yahoo Sports and dropping us 7 spots, to 90th place, in the Fans of From the Marbles league.
Clint Bowyer, who was awarded the win from the Pitstop's bench, did contribute 5 points for qualifying in 2nd place. Here's how our starters did.
Tony Stewart: Started 26th, finished 31st and 30 fantasy points. Ironically, in his last start of the season for us, Stewart was the only People's Pitstop starter who did not lead a lap in this wild race. Unfortunately, he was caught up in the last-lap crash and led to Bowyer's win.
Jamie McMurray: Started 12th, finished 36th (5 laps behind the leaders), 4 laps led and 30 fantasy points. McMurray's chances were essentially extinguished when he got caught up in Jeff Burton's crash roughly two-thirds of the way into the race.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Started 6th, finished 39th (25 laps behind the leaders), 24 laps led and 34 fantasy points. Earnhardt took the blame for the Burton wreck, which ended the day for the 88 car, as well. And that's too bad; Earnhardt wound up leading the most laps in this race.
Sam Hornish Jr.: Started 10th, finished 15th, 5 laps led and 72 fantasy points. Raise your hand if you thought Hornish would score twice as many points as any other driver in our lineup. Now put your hand down, you liar.
Here's the truth: The People's Pitstop has only three races left, starting with Sunday's contest at Texas Motor Speedway. The polls are up and will close Thursday morning. Please vote now.
By the way, if you're a football fan, you owe it to yourself to get your hand on a copy of Ron Jaworski's book "The Games that Changed the Game." In this book, Jaworski (with the help of Greg Cosell and David Plaut of NFL films) breaks down seven games that demonstrated a system that altered the way players and coaches across the league viewed the sport. For example, here's an excerpt from Jaworski's analysis of Buddy Ryan's 46 defense:
"Another change the 46 brought about was how teams drafted. More an more personnel directors now pick receivers specifically to beat press coverage. Cornerbacks who cover wider field areas are also popular draft choices. And offenses have had to put in greater numbers of deception plays, such as quick screens where the quarterback gets the ball out fast to a receiver with linemen blocking in front of him."
There's plenty more where that came from, so get a copy and enjoy the Monday night game. In the meantime, we have to pick a defense/special teams for next week. A poll on that topic is now open and will close Tuesday evening. Please vote now.
We'll be back with the full football results.

Monday's Racing Summary
As for the People's Pitstop, your favorite fantasy NASCAR team scored 261 points during Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. The season total is 7,740, leaving us 59,524th overall on Yahoo Sports and dropping us one spot, to 75th, in the Fans of From the Marbles league.
Here's how we got here.
Jimmie Johnson: Started 21st, finished 2nd and 88 fantasy points. Fantasy NASCAR players will be disappointed that Johnson did not lead a lap, but since Johnson moved into the points lead, it's a safe bet that he'll get over it.
Jeff Burton: Started 23rd, finished 18th, 2 laps led and 66 fantasy points, including 10 for leading a lap. This was Burton's last race for the People's Pitstop this season. From a fantasy perspective, it can be described the same way as his season: OK but nothing to write home about. Yes, he's one of the drivers who made the Chase, but he did not win a race, and he has to be considered a long shot to get a checkered flag, much less the Sprint Cup.
Ryan Newman: Started 6th, finished 9th and 74 fantasy points. Here's a very interesting chart of Newman's day. It shows that even though he spent a good portion of the day near the front of the pack, he never found a way to get to the front of the pack.
Sam Hornish Jr.: Started 18th, finished 36th and 20 fantasy points. To the growing list of words and phrases you never want to hear associated with your driver's performance, add the phrase "drive shaft."
And don't forget the 10 points we got from Kasey Kahne for taking the pole and the 3 points we got from Jeff Gordon for qualifying 3rd. Without their contributions, our performance would look a lot worse.
Now, NASCAR takes its act to California (Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, to be specific), and the People's Pitstop needs another lineup. The polls are now open and will stay open until Thursday night.
Also, for you fantasy football fans, we have a poll that asks which kicker should get Jeff Reed's spot in our lineup. That poll will close Tuesday night, so we can put in the waiver request before the Wednesday morning deadline. Please vote now.
We'll be back with a summary of our football team's performance.

The People's Choice - Kansas
A List. He's got four titles and a hot hand, so it should come as no surprise that you picked Jimmie Johnson to start this week. His co-owner Jeff Gordon will watch from the bench.
B List. This week, the People's Pitstop will say farewell to another driver, because Jeff Burton has been selected to start his final race for us this season. Ryan Newman will join him in the starting lineup, while Jamie McMurray and Kasey Kahne will grab the bench spots.
C List. This is the only poll that produced a tie. A.J. Allmendinger and Sam Hornish Jr. will compete in the qualifying session for the fourth and final starting spot.
We will update this post after the qualifying session. Please be sure to vote in the fantasy football polls, which will close Sunday morning. We'll be back with the predictions.
EDITED 6:45 P.M. This has to be a first. Our team is getting 13 points from two drivers who won't even start for us: Gordon (3 points for qualifying 3rd) and Kasey Kahne (10 points for getting the pole). Hornish qualified 18th and beat out Allmendinger, who qualified 30th, for the C List spot.

The People's Choice - New Hampshire
A List. This list is populated with a lot of the drivers contending for the Sprint Cup, and we had a three-way tie between Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin. The reshuffling after last week's race has made the usual tiebreaker of driver points less relevant for this particular week, so we went by Cup titles. Johnson and Stewart have them, Hamlin does not. We'll return to points next week. For now, Johnson and Stewart go into this week's qualifying session battling for a starting spot.
B List. One of the starting spots has been finalized by Joey Logano's narrow win in this poll. Three other drivers are fighting for the other spot: Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer. If Burton or Kenseth win the qualifying tiebreaker, he'll start for the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team for the last time.
C List. This poll produced another clear-cut winner: Scott Speed. He gets the starting spot, while Sam Hornish Jr. will watch from the bench and wonder how much longer he will be a Penske Racing employee. (That bench spot would have gone to Mattias Ekstrom, but he isn't entered for this race.)
The results appear below. Thank you for voting, and please vote in the fantasy football polls if you haven't done so already. They'll close Sunday morning.
We will update this post after qualifying concludes.
UPDATED 5 P.M. The results are in, and once again, the People's Pitstop earn some bonuses. Tony Stewart beat out Jimmie Johnson for the A List starting spot, and he earned us a 3-point bonus for qualifying 3rd. Clint Bowyer beat out both Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth for the B List spot, and he earned us a 5-point bonus for qualifying 2nd. Joey Logano, sitting in the other B List spot, qualified 31st, and Scott Speed, holding the C List spot, qualified 28th.
We'll be back with some predictions.

Now, Where Were We?
Anyway, last week the People's Pitstop racked up only 269 points at Chicagoland Speedway. That leaves us with a season total of 5,070, good enough for 53,004th place overall in Yahoo Sports and lifting us another 6 spots, to 63rd, in the Fans of From the Marbles league. Yes, there are people having a worse time than us. Johnny Jolly, for instance.
Here is a more detailed breakdown.
Jeff Gordon: Started 6th, finished 3rd, 47 laps led and 96 fantasy points, including the 10 bonus points for leading a lap. You just get the feeling it's only a matter of time before he shakes that winless streak.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Started 25th, finished 23rd (1 lap behind the leaders) and 46 fantasy points. Well, at least he can still make kids' wishes come true. I guess no kid has wished for Dale to win a Sprint Cup race yet.
Jeff Burton: Started 14th, finished 7th and 78 fantasy points. Again, all that's missing is the ability to take the lead, even in Sporting News polls.
Sam Hornish Jr.: Started 5th, finished 24th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 44 fantasy points. Too bad there aren't any fantasy points for having NASCAR randomly select your car for postrace inspection.
(And for you math majors, the weekly total also includes 5 points for Jimmie Johnson, who qualified second but was benched in favor of Gordon.)
This week, NASCAR heads a place where certain drivers should feel quite comfortable: Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It also heads to the Walt Disney family of networks. To celebrate, this week we have the usual lineup polls and a bonus TV poll. Please feel free to vote now. The results from the Chase poll appear below.
Also, this week you'll notice that Jeff Burton's name has a note attached. Mr. Burton may only start one more race for the People's Pitstop. Vote wisely.

The People's Choice - Chicago
A List. In this poll, the voters paid attention to who has run well at Chicagoland Speedway in the past. The starting spot goes to Jeff Gordon, while the bench spot goes to his teammate, Jimmie Johnson.
B List. Here, we have one clear-cut winner and a bunch of other drivers battling (not literally) for the second starting spot. Last week's Nationwide series winner, Dale Earnhardt Jr., gets the first starting spot. The second one will go to Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton or Clint Bowyer. The one who qualifies the best will start. The others will ride the proverbial pine.
C List. This poll ended in a dead heat between Scott Speed and Sam Hornish Jr. Again, the stronger qualifier will get the start.
The poll results appear below. The new poll is a response to NASCAR's assertion that it is looking at ways to change its Chase. Feel free to vote now. We'll be back with the predictions for Saturday's race.
UPDATED 9 P.M. EDT The qualifying results are in. Jeff Burton (who qualified 14th) gets the B List starting nod over Clint Bowyer (15th) and Harvick (27th). Sam Hornish Jr. (who qualified 5th) gets the C List spot over Scott Speed (39th). Jimmie Johnson will stay on the bench, but by qualifying 2nd, he earns the People's Pitstop 5 bonus points. Thanks, papa.

The Weather's Hot, But ...
The Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team managed to score only 266 points Sunday at the Sprint Cup race in New Hampshire. That leaves us with a season total of 4,559, putting us in 52,148th overall on Yahoo Sports and dropping us 2 spots to 77th place in the Fans of From the Marbles league.
Here's how so many cast to many votes to get so few points.
Denny Hamlin: Started 20th, finished 14th and 64 fantasy points. The first five-time winner of the Sprint Cup season (but no longer the only one) picked this week to perform like a middle-of-the-pack runner.
Jeff Burton: Started 17th, finished 12th, 89 laps led and 78 fantasy points. Burton was the only People's Pitstop driver to get the 10 bonus points for leading a lap. Unfortunately, he was also the only one to apologize to Kyle Busch after the race.
Clint Bowyer: Started 9th, finished 7th and 78 fantasy points. The good news for Bowyer is that he remains high enough in driver points to still call himself a contender for the Chase.
Sam Hornish Jr.: Started 8th, finished 23rd (1 lap behind the leaders) and 46 fantasy points. Our C List driver puts up another C List performance.
Now it's time for NASCAR to return to where the season started: Daytona Beach. The new lineup polls are up. As usual, they will close Thursday night, because the qualifying session is Friday. Please vote now. The Danica Patrick poll results appear below.

The People's Choice - New Hampshire
Here are the drivers in the mix for the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team.
A List. He only had to win five of the season's first 16 races to do it, but Denny Hamlin has earned your confidence. He won this poll in a rout and will get his first starting spot of the fantasy racing season over Jeff Gordon.
B List. To paraphrase the Sundays, here's where the certainty ends. We had a logjam in this poll. Using points as the tiebreaker, we have four drivers competing for two starting spots: Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. This will come down to the qualifying session. The drivers who qualify the best will start.
C List. Another tie here. This time it comes down to Paul Menard and Sam Hornish Jr. Again, we'll use the qualifying session as the tiebreaker, and the People's Pitstop could end up with more juniors than this year's NBA Draft.
We'll update this post after the qualifying session. In the meantime, the new poll about you know who is up and open for voting.
10:25 p.m. UPDATE. The qualifying results are in. In addition to Hamlin, your starters are Clint Bowyer (who starts 9th), Jeff Burton (17th) and Sam Hornish Jr. (8th). And for those of you who don't think "football" involves diving like Greg Louganis, we'll be back with another fantasy football preview.

Wrapping Up Michigan
The Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team scored only 252 points during the Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. That leaves us with a season total of 3,973, good enough for 64,241st place overall in Yahoo Sports and 84th place in the Fans of From the Marbles league. Here are the details.
Kurt Busch. Started 1st, finished 3rd, 60 laps led and 106 fantasy points. That total includes 10 bonus points for starting on the pole and 10 more for leading a lap. Take a nice, close look at those bonus points. They are the only ones the People's Pitstop collected this weekend. Kurt and Denny Hamlin were the only drivers who spent any significant time in the lead.
Jeff Burton. Started 5th, finished 8th and 76 fantasy points. The only headlines he made Sunday were for failing to wrest 7th place from Dale Earnhardt Jr. (You know, the guy who wants you to watch the World Cup.)
Ryan Newman. Started 8th, finished 32nd (1 lap behind the leaders) and 28 fantasy points. Three-quarters through the race (look for lap 150 on this NASCAR.com report), Newman reported hitting some debris that did something to his car. Eight laps later, Hamlin lapped him. Coincidence?
Paul Menard. Started 22nd, finished 25th (1 lap behind the leaders) and 42 fantasy points. Look on the bright side: Menard did better in this race than he did in the Nationwide series race in Kentucky on Saturday.
But enough about Michigan. Now it's time to get back on the road -- the road course in Sonoma, that is. And it's time for a fresh set of lineup polls, which will stay up until Thursday night. Please vote now. Here are the results of the two other polls.

The People's Results - Michigan
A List. There was an absolute logjam (kind of like the one at the end of last week's race) in this poll. This week, we've had to use both of our tiebreakers. First, by virtue of points, we're using the Busch brothers, Kyle and Kurt, in some order. Whoever gets the start will depend on whoever qualifies better.
B List. Here we have a three-way tie for first place. Congratulations to Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman. Two of them will start for the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team. The third will share the bench with Martin Truex Jr.
C List. There was a clear winner for the starting spot here: Paul Menard. The tiebreaker for the bench spot went to A.J. Allmendinger.
The lineup poll results appear below. Today we have two new polls. One is a response to a column by Jenna Fryer of Yahoo Sports about TV channels using NASCAR team owners in their broadcasts. The other is a response to this week's publications of the first fantasy football preview magazines of the season. We'll be back with qualifying results.
ADDED 10 p.m. EDT. The results are in, and once again the People's Pitstop has the pole! This time, it was Kurt Busch who did the honors, so he'll start in the A List slot. As far as the B List members are concerned, the two starting spots go to Jeff Burton (who qualified fifth) and Ryan Newman (who qualified eighth). Clint Bowyer, by virtue of qualifying 25th, earned a spot on the bench.

Pocono Results, Michigan Polls
Anyway, the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team managed to score 336 points during Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway. That raises our season total to 3,721, good enough for 60,099th overall on Yahoo Sports and 81st place in the Fans of From the Marbles league. If you consider just the "summer" portion of the fantasy NASCAR season (which began last week in Charlotte), the People's Pitstop finds itself in 12th place in the lead.
We'll try not to faint as we give you the detailed results.
Kyle Busch. Started 1st, finished 2nd, 32 laps led and 108 fantasy points. That total includes 10 bonus points for leading a lap and another 10 for starting at the pole position. Not bad for a guy whose fans want to see him in a pink suit.
Jeff Burton. Started 13th, finished 7th and 78 fantasy points. All that was missing from his afternoon was a chance to lead a lap.
Clint Bowyer. Started 2nd, finished 9th, 59 laps led and 89 fantasy points. His total includes 10 bonus points for leading at least a lap and five more for starting in 2nd place. He's a driver who could make some noise during the Sprint Cup Chase if he qualifies.
Paul Menard. Started 33rd, finished 16th and 60 fantasy points. You know you had a strong fantasy racing day when the weakest link in your chain was a driver who finished in the top 20 and on the lead lap.
(And for you math majors, the team's total score also includes a point from Kurt Busch, who qualified 4th for this race but stayed on the bench.)
Anyway, it's time to turn our collective sights to Michigan and next Sunday's race. The lineup polls are up and will stay up until Thursday night. The results from the weekend poll about Fox's NASCAR coverage appear below. We'll be back shortly with an update on the other fantasy sport we follow here.

The People's Results - Pocono
A List. This week's starter is Kyle Busch, who has two wins under his belt so far this season. His brother Kurt will sit on the bench.
B List. We better hope that everything is truly OK between Kyle and Jeff Burton, because they're both starting for the Internet's favorite fantasy NASCAR team this week. It would stink if some bad words carried over to the track and caused two of our drivers to take each other out.
The other starting spot for B List drivers goes to Clint Bowyer. The bench spots go to Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr., who has yet to start a race for the People's Pitstop. (Read into that anything you want.)
C List. This week we welcome Paul Menard back from the bench and into the starting lineup. A.J. Allmendinger gets the bench spot.
A new poll is up and will stay up through the weekend. The lineup poll results appear below. We'll be back with fearless predictions.

A Quick Pre-All-Star Post
Unfortunately, one of your options for tonight's race won't be Brian Vickers, who has been sidelined for the season by his ongoing treatment for blood clots. Fortunately, NASCAR is allowing Casey Mears to use the spot Vickers had earned to run in tonight's All-Star Race. It's nice to see NASCAR earn itself some good karma for once.
If you're still online in about an hour and a half, be sure to visit the Yahoo Sports live chat for both the Sprint Showdown and the All-Star Race. We'll try to be there.
