Quick Monday Evening Update (and Polls)

The ESPN pregame crew may be looking ahead to next week's clash between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets, but we at the People's Pigskin certainly are not. We are still focused on this week's fantasy football matchup against the Chicago VinSethBears.

We currently hold a 101-77 lead, but this game isn't over yet. The VinSethBears have Michael Crabtree in Monday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals. If Crabtree scores 25 or more points, the VinSethBears will win. It's so simple, even this guy could figure it out.

In the meantime, it is time to start considering our lineup for next week. There are no Thursday night players on our roster, so these football polls will stay up until Sunday morning. Feel free to vote now, and enjoy tonight's game. And here are the results from our playoff poll.

Receiver Developments

Don't oversleep if you're a fantasy football fan. If you do, you run the risk of missing major stories about your players.

If you were one of the many who drafted Michael Crabtree before the season, only to ditch him as his holdout lingered into the regular season, you may be interested to know that Crabtree has agreed to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Of course, this doesn't automatically make Mr. I Should Get As Much As Darrius Heyward-Bey relevant to fantasy football. Just because Crabtree is on the team does not automatically mean he'll be in the starting lineup on Sunday. He has a lot of catching up to do.

And if you're a fantasy player, that's not even the biggest news from Wednesday morning. ESPN Radio is reporting that Braylon Edwards has been traded to the New York Jets. That one, obviously, is huge. Edwards goes from playing with the Brady Quinn/Derek Anderson combo platter to catching passes from Mark Sanchez. He also escapes the Eric Mangini stalag that the Cleveland Browns are quickly becoming. (No word on whether LeBron James is letting Edwards off the hook, though.)

Week 3 notes

Here are some random thoughts about the dress rehearsal weekend that is week 3 of the NFL preseason.

At this point, no one expects Bill Belichick & Co. to reveal anything more about his plans and players than the National Football League forces them, but at some point don't you have to play the BS card on this stuff? The "football decision" regarding Tom Brady was "making sure New England's Meal Ticket isn't flattened like a flapjack in a meaningless game by Albert Haynesworth." Frankly, I'm surprised New England admitted that the Tom Brady part that was sore was his shoulder.

(What does this have to do with where and whether to draft Brady? Umm, I'll get back to you.)

I was driving friends home from the airport Sunday evening, so I did not see Kyle Orton's injury. But after what happened with Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall this season, would anyone blame the Broncos for saying, "Um, we're cancelling the rest of our preseason. The reason? Ummm...snow! That's it!"

I'm not concerned at all about the fact that LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Owens, Willie Parker and Carson Palmer have been taking time off this preseason. If those folks don't know how to play with their teammates by now, it's time for them to just hang em up, already. Michael Crabtree? That's another story. He's running the very real risk of becoming irrelevant to fantasy players this season. Clearly, his agent is not a fantasy player.

Speaking of fantasy, by the time many of you read this, The People's Pigskin will have drafted its team. Expect a new poll shortly.
