There's still time to vote on the Nate Washington and Christmas football polls (both of which will close tomorrow) and the lineup poll (which will close Sunday). In the meantime, it's time for one last set of predictions for the Landshark Maniacs fantasy football league. Again, these are two-week matchups, so week 17 will be in play here, too.
Last week's predictions went 4-1, raising our season record to 41-29. The only miss was the win by the Southern Rebels, our opponent in the final round. Here's hoping the Rebels don't hold that against us.
Let's start with the ninth-place matchup between the Houston Wreckin' Crew and Ravens Fan T Sizzle. In this game, it will be important to mind your Ps and Qs--that is, the "probable" and "questionable" statuses throughout both lineups. This matchup will hinge on Michael Turner, who could put up big numbers for the Crew or injure himself on his first carry and put up a doughnut (as he did in last week's game against the Pigskin). My guess is that Turner will show up for the last two weeks and fuel a victory for the Crew.
Next is the seventh-place match between the D.C. Destroyers and T-bay jacks 151rum stumblrs. Both sides have plenty of players fighting for playoff spots, but the most intriguing player is Chris Johnson, who is chasing a postseason bid, a 2,000-yard season and possibly Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record. Since the Titans need to win both games to get into the playoffs, they'll be motivated to feed Johnson the ball early and often. That will mean big fantasy points for him and a victory for the Destroyers.
The fifth-place match for the title of Best Landshark Maniacs Team Not to Make the Playoffs (yes, I just made that title up) pits the People's Pigskin against the Southern Rebels. Which team is the pick here? Let me give you a hint: In the immortal words of Terrell Owens, "I'd love me some of me."
In the playoff consolation game for third place, we have the Hawaiian Surfriders facing Tinks Revenge. As of this writing, the Surfriders have not selected a kicker, but it probably won't matter. Ray Rice is a contender for fantasy football find of the year, and his team is in a "We need to win both games to get into the playoffs" situation, so he'll get the ball early and often. The Revenge gets the win and the proverbial bronze medal.
Finally, we have the Landshark Maniacs championship game, Northeast Dragons vs. Big Lough O. One thing that's striking about this matchup is the proliferation of 1s and 2s under the "position rank" column. We can honestly say that the two best teams are meeting for the title. (Note to college football fans: We used a playoff to get here. We did not need a fraudulent set of polls and computer numbers. Remember: Playoffs rule.)
Anyway, it's hard to find a player who won't be in a position to put up a ton of points over the next two weeks. Even Drew Brees has a reason to keep slinging the ball in the fourth quarter. (The New Orleans Saints have not wrapped up home-field advantage.) The difference here may be the wide receivers. Given the choice, I'll take Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson and Vincent Jackson over Roddy White, Terrell Owens and even Wes Welker. As a result, I'll take the Dragons to win it all.

Behind the Loss
There was no miraculous comeback for the People's Pigskin, which fell to Tinks Revenge by a final score of 110-79. The season record is now 3-3. Here's the breakdown of the breakdown.
Kurt Warner, QB. The stats: 32 of 41 passing for 276 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, 1 fumble, and 15 fantasy points. Warner once again was the engine for the Arizona Cardinals offense, but the turnovers held down Kurt's fantasy numbers. (So did Seattle's lack of offense, which kept Kurt from having to throw deep late in the game.)
Matt Forte, RB. The stats: 15 rushes for 23 yards, 5 receptions for 37 yards, 1 fumble, and 3 fantasy points. Matt had a golden opportunity to score a touchdown for the Bears, but his goal-line fumble was a killer for the Chicago Bears.
Steve Slaton, RB. The stats: 19 rushes for 43 yards, 6 receptions for 102 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 fumble, and 18 fantasy points. We can't complain about Steve's Sunday, but his point total simply could not compete with the Revenge's big numbers from DeAngelo Williams (29) and Ray Rice (30).
Chad Ochocino, Flex. The stats: 5 receptions, 103 yards, and 10 fantasy points. The Cincinnati Bengals had a rough outing against the Houston Texans. Chad needs to start finding the end zone again.
Greg Jennings, WR. The stats: 6 receptions, 64 yards, and 6 fantasy points. The Green Bay Packers put up 26 points against the lowly Detroit Lions, but Jennings couldn't get a piece of that.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR. The stats: 4 receptions, 34 yards, and 3 fantasy points. The Seattle Seahawks had a miserable outing against the Arizona Cardinals. And from T.J.'s numbers, you'd think Seneca Wallace was the starting quarterback.

Monday Afternoon Update (and a New Poll)
Premature congratulations are in order for Tinks Revenge, who will likely get that against the People's Pigskin this week. The Revenge currently enjoys a 103-70 lead over our team. In the Monday night matchup between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos, the Revenge has Antonio Gates, while we have Matt Prater, our newly acquired kicker. To paraphrase the immortal Sydney Greenstreet in "Casablanca," it would take a miracle for the Pigskin to beat the Revenge, and the Landshark Maniacs have outlawed miracles.
Speaking of Matt Prater, his time with the People's Pigskin will have to be brief, since his team has a bye next week. Yes, that means that you, the Internet, will be picking a free agent kicker for the second straight week. Here are the nominees:
Nick Folk, Dallas Cowboys. His team had a bye this week, but Folk has scored at least 5 fantasy points in every game this season. He's currently tied for 6th with 38 fantasy points for the season.
Jay Feely, New York Jets. A botched snap doomed his hope of kicking the winning field goal Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, but Feely has scored at least 4 fantasy points every game this season. He's tied for 8th with 37.
Dan Carpenter, Miami Dolphins. His team had a bye this week, but the only time Carpenter has scored fewer than 7 fantasy points was the season opener, when he scored 1. He's in 9th place with 36.

The People's Choice: Week 6
Thanks to everyone who voted in our latest polls. You, the Internet, said that the People's Pigskin lineup should be left alone. So it was. This week's fantasy football matchup is a rematch against Tinks Revenge, who lost in week 3 to the Pigskin by a score of 54-45. You can follow this week's matchup here.
You, the Internet, also said you follow the football team located where you grew up. Personally, I'm relieved that no one said they chose their team because of the sexy uniforms.
Today, we have a poll suggested by a reader about the ongoing saga surrounding Tom Cable, Randy Hanson and the jaw that Cable may or may not have broken. And we have a layout change: From now on, the polls will appear on the right of the page (right under the people's football helmet) instead of within each post. That should make them easier to find.
At least, that's what I'm hoping.

Pick the People's Team - Week 6
Thanks to everyone who voted in this week's waiver polls. The winners (if someone being picked up from waivers for fantasy football can be called a winner) were Nate Washington and Matt Prater. Both of them are now part of our roster.
Now, it's the moment you've been waiting for all week -- the chance to pick the starters for the Landshark Maniacs matchup between the People's Pigskin and Tinks Revenge. Here's a look at the current starters and the options for lineup changes.
Quarterback. Once again, Kurt Warner is our starter. And despite predictions for more balance in the Arizona Cardinals play calls, he remains an invaluable part of any fantasy team. If you disagree, you can vote to bring Trent Edwards off the bench (and persuade your friends to do likewise).
Running back. Our starters are Matt Forte (who is reportedly recovered from his knee injury) and Steve Slaton, who faces the Cincinnati Bengals. If you want to send one of these players to the bench, we can put Derrick Ward into the lineup.
Flex. America's favorite touchdown celebrator, Chad Ochocinco, is in our flex spot this week. He didn't get to unveil his "Ricky Bobby" tribute last week, so maybe we'll get to see it this week. Hopefully, it won't involve praying to Tom Cruise. Anyway, if you want to take a pass on his antics, Nate Washington is an option.

How the People Won (and How We Keep Winning)
Once again, the fantasy football gods made us wait until the very end for a resolution, but once again, you, the Internet emerged victorious.
The People's Pigskin recorded a 54-45 victory over Tinks Revenge, raising our record to 2-1. Here's a breakdown of the results.
Trent Edwards, QB. The stats: 20 of 35 passing for 156 yards, 1 interception, 2 rushes for 13 yards, and 5 fantasy points. The Buffalo Bills have to be disappointed in those stats. His longest completion against the New Orleans Saints was only 18 yards. And none of his completions went to Terrell Owens, who, to his credit, refused to throw anyone under the bus afterward.
Matt Forte, RB. The stats: 21 rushes for 66 yards, 6 catches for 40 yards, and 10 fantasy points. These are not the stats of a first-round fantasy pick, but they are getting better as the season progresses.
Steve Slaton, RB. The stats: 12 rushes for 76 yards, 3 receptions for 37 yards, and 10 fantasy points. Again, not the type of production the Houston Texans would want from their primary running back, though he is clearly being targeted.
Donald Brown, Flex. The stats: 14 rushes for 40 yards, 1 reception for 72 yards, and 11 fantasy points. These numbers were mostly generated late in the game, as the Indianapolis Colts played keepaway with the Arizona Cardinals. Still, that was the highest point total among our starters.

Kellen Winslow, TE. The stats: 3 receptions, 14 yards, and 1 fantasy point. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked like a JV squad against the New York Giants on Sunday. It was so bad that the Bucs will start Josh Johnson instead of Byron Leftwich at quarterback this week. We have to hope Johnson knows that a good tight end can be a young quarterback's best friend.
Nick Folk, K. The stats: 2 for 3 on field goals, 1 PAT, and 6 fantasy points. I have to admit I got nervous when Folk missed his first field goal attempt of the night, since our team was docked a point. But Nick was solid the rest of the way and managed to avoid a Mora-style tirade.
Philadelphia Eagles, D/ST. The stats: 1 fumble recovery, 14 points allowed, and 6 fantasy points. The Eagles controlled the Kansas City Chiefs all day long and remain the top-scoring defense in fantasy football.
Bench. Kurt Warner got 13 points, while Greg Jennings got 10, so you Warner fans (or anti-Stokley fans) can go ahead and feel vindicated.
Our defense provides us with our first bye week challenge of the season. The Eagles are off this week (music to the ears of both Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid, I'm sure), so we need another defense. Rather than waiving the top-scoring defense in fantasy football, the plan is to bench the Eagles, waive Rashard Mendenhall (call us when/if your team figures out its running game), and pluck a defense off the waiver wire. Here are the leading candidates.
New Orleans Saints. Believe it or not, this defense racked up 12 fantasy points last week and are sixth in fantasy points this season. They face the New York Jets this week.
San Francisco 49ers. Mike Singletary is clearing putting his stamp on this team, which got 11 fantasy points from its defense last week. They face the St. Louis Rams this week.
Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, Carson Palmer got the headlines, but his defense also played a major role in the Steelers upset, getting 9 fantasy points for their effort. They face the Cleveland Browns this week.

Early Results and Monday Preview
It was an ... interesting Sunday for the People's Pigskin. Thanks to a second-half surge by Donald Brown, who was fed the ball as the Indianapolis Colts tried to squeeze the clock, our team currently enjoys a 10-point lead over Tinks Revenge. For those of you who voted for benching Brandon Stokley, the Denver Broncos receiver was held scoreless. But then again, so was Terrell Owens; he was held without a catch for the first time in 185 games. And if I were on his team, I wouldn't be smiling either.

Gameday Thoughts
As we get ready for our epic clash with Tinks Revenge, here are some random thoughts, some of them related to fantasy football.
Guess who's coming to kickoff? A lot is being made about Michael Vick's return to active duty. Of course, most of the fuss is being made by folks who don't talk about fantasy football for a living. You would be insane to put Vick into your fantasy lineup at this point, and your sanity would also be questioned if you played Kevin Kolb, given the possibility that he'll get pulled for Vick (or even Jeff Garcia) on any given play.
No Brownie points for you. How far behind the curve are the Cleveland Browns? Most teams take care of their rookie pranks during training camp. This team waits until week 3 of the regular season to pull a prank that starts a locker room fight. ESPN is even offering a blog just for keeping track of the wounded warriors. As of 10:45 a.m. EDT, we know that Donovan McNabb, Jamal Lewis and LaDainian Tomlinson are out. Matt Hasselbeck is doubtful (which, for fantasy players, is just as good as being out). Brian Westbrook, Clinton Portis, Marion Barber, Wes Welker, Randy Moss and a cast of thousands are questionable.
What does this mean? It means if you're a serious fantasy player, you're either watching a pregame show so you can set your lineup at the last minute, or you're driving the people around you crazy because you're worrying about your lineup.

Guess who's coming to kickoff? A lot is being made about Michael Vick's return to active duty. Of course, most of the fuss is being made by folks who don't talk about fantasy football for a living. You would be insane to put Vick into your fantasy lineup at this point, and your sanity would also be questioned if you played Kevin Kolb, given the possibility that he'll get pulled for Vick (or even Jeff Garcia) on any given play.

The People's Choice - Week 3
Once again, you, the Internet, have spoken in our grand fantasy football democracy experiment. We asked what we should do with the lineup, and the majority of you said Trent Edwards should start in Kurt Warner's place. So he shall.
Since Tinks Revenge is playing DeAngelo Williams of the Carolina Panthers and we have Nick Folk of the Dallas Cowboys, this Landshark Maniacs clash won't be settled until Monday night's game between the Panthers and the Cowboys.
As far as the other poll is concerned, it's unanimous: You, the Internet, say betting on NFL games should be legal. Frankly, I'm not surprised, since you are following a fantasy football blog, after all.
We'll be back Sunday (hopefully before game time) with another poll and pregame thoughts.

Pick the People's Team - Week 3
Thanks to your votes, the People's Pigskin picked up Brandon Stokley off the waiver wire. Now it's time to set our lineup for this week's game against Tinks Revenge. She brings an imposing lineup, but I think it can be beaten.
Quarterback. Right now our starter is Kurt Warner, and my gut feeling is to stick with him, even though ESPN's "experts" expect him to get fewer points than Trent Edwards.
Running back. OK, last week's switch blew up in our collective faces, so for the moment we have Matt Forte and Steve Slaton back in the starting slots. Waiting in the wings (should you, the Internet, will it) is Rashard Mendenhall.
Flex. Our current lineup features Donald Brown, the rookie from UConn who has earned regular playing time for the Indianapolis Colts. Here's hoping Peyton Manning & Co. don't make a habit of holding the ball for less than 15 minutes. Again, Mendenhall waits on the bench.
Wide receiver. Since we got him, I see no reason not to use Brandon Stokley right away. Also, I'd say Chad Ochocinco deserves another starting spot, even if he did rig that "Lambeau Leap" thing by planting Bengals fans in the end zone. Waiting in the wings is Greg Jennings, who got a grand total of 0 points last week.
Again, no changes at tight end (Kellen Winslow), kicker (Nick Folk, playing Monday night) or defense (Philadelphia Eagles).
